A man looking in a mirror sees in it the reflection of Jesus

Feelings of inferiority and inadequacy paralyze many of us. Few of us are outwardly beautiful.

Skin blemishes, imperfect physical features, aging, weight issues, and many other imperfections can seriously diminish our self-esteem.

Although our parents and grandparents once thought we were brilliant children, our early genius somehow escaped! Most of us attract as much attention as a snowflake in a blizzard. We feel nameless, faceless, and lost in the crowd.

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to make you whole. He meets your real needs. Peter and John once met a paralyzed man who had never walked.

A single coin from Peter and John would have satisfied him. But they wanted something better for him.

Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (Acts 3:6 NIV).

Normally, mind and body work together. You learned to walk and run. The disabled man walked and leaped without that step.

Peter was not unusually handsome or intelligent. Yet, he was among those accused of turning the world upside down (Acts 17:6).

He was poor. But through the Holy Spirit, he was spiritually powerful to meet people’s needs.

Our feelings of inadequacy limit us like the disabled man’s birth defect. We know too well what we cannot do. We expect to fail in any spiritual venture.

Our broken, battered spirits heal more slowly than a broken leg. But, by God’s grace, they heal.

If God could program the disabled man’s brain to walk and leap, He can reprogram how you look at yourself.

Like the man with disabilities, you need more than comforting words. You need God’s power. How solidly are you plugged into it?

"By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong” (Acts 3:16 NIV).

Active faith connects your real needs to Jesus, our ever-living source of power. God brings strength and perfect soundness in His name.

The remedy for a crushed spirit is reprogramming your mind with God’s value system. It is not instant or automatic.

Diligently studying and faithfully applying His word to your life brings victory inch by inch, at God’s pace, not yours. Along the way, you discover that your ultimate need is not self-esteem but glorifying Jesus by serving others.

The Pacific Ocean, Lake Superior, and a puddle reflect the sun. You can reflect Jesus.

Your wholeness is not about how big, beautiful, or smart you are. It is how well you reflect Jesus. No mirror that reflects Him is cheap. What is your takeaway? See additional free spiritual growth resources for Christians.
