God Is All Knowing

Summary
God knows us completely—our thoughts, words, deeds, needs, past, present, and future. Nothing is hidden from Him, and His limitless understanding ensures His judgments are always right and fair. He knows our weaknesses, motives, and every possible outcome. Because God sees what we cannot, we can trust His purposes, guidance, and promises, knowing that His knowledge extends far beyond our own.
A Prophetic Encouragement
A stranger once prayed a life-changing prayer for me, even though he did not understand his own prophecy. God gave him two mental images of an old-fashioned water pump.
A Promise of Greater Fruitfulness
In the first image, water spurted from the pump; in the second, it flooded the entire area. I immediately understood the water to represent spiritual fruitfulness. The message was clear: my future fruitfulness would far exceed anything I had experienced before.
Fulfilled Beyond Expectation
Through that man, our all-knowing God spoke when I desperately needed encouragement. His prophecy has been fulfilled beyond anything I could have imagined.
God Knows Every Thought
God knows everything. He knows every thought—virtuous or otherwise, spoken or unspoken (1 Chronicles 28:9). If all your thoughts became a movie, would you attend the premiere? I would not attend mine.
Our Plans and God’s Purpose
God knows the futility of our plans (Psalm 94:11) and how often they stray from His purpose for us. He calls us to make more and better disciples (Matthew 28:19), yet we scheme to acquire more and better possessions, hoping they will make us happy. He knows they will not.
God Knows Every Word
God knows every word we have spoken—from our first “Da-da” to our final words and everything in between. At 10,000 words a day, that is roughly 300 million words over an 80-year life. How many were careless, unkind, false, or spoken in anger? Those words will return to haunt us (The Message, Matthew 12:34-37).
Every Deed Is Seen
Obituaries often highlight deeds people value: he coached Little League for 40 years and fed people experiencing homelessness. Countless unpraiseworthy actions went unmentioned, but God could list them alphabetically, chronologically, or in any other order. He sees everything the wicked and the good do (Proverbs 15:3).
Nothing Is Hidden
I cannot remember what I did on July 15th when I was seven, but God knows. He also knows what every person who has ever lived did each day from birth to death—and He knew it before they were born (Jeremiah 1:5). The One to whom we must give account knows everything about us (Hebrews 4:13). He knows every birth and death date, even the seemingly insignificant number of hairs on each head (Matthew 10:30). He knows what we need before we ask (Matthew 6:8).
God Knows the Future
I have forgotten much of my past and cannot see what the future holds. To God, however, the future is as clear as the past. He already knows the final score of every game yet to be played (Isaiah 46:10).
Perfect Knowledge, Perfect Judgment
God also knows every “what if”—what we would have done under different circumstances. Because He knows us completely, His judgments are always right and fair. He doesn’t miss any evidence for or against right standing with Him.
Limitless Understanding
Some of us struggled with high school geometry, but God's understanding is limitless (Psalm 147:5). Nothing confounds Him; He knows all things (1 John 3:20).
Known Completely
He knows I am typing at my computer. He knows when I stand and walk to stretch my legs, and He knows every thought behind each sentence—what I include, what I omit, and why. He knows my strengths and weaknesses and every word of my blog before I type it (Psalm 139:1-4).
