Summary
Life’s existence cannot be reasonably explained by chance. The universe, Earth, and even water molecules are exquisitely fine-tuned to sustain life. From Earth’s position in the galaxy to the forces governing matter, everything operates within precise limits. While scientists learn gradually, God has no learning curve. The complexity and order of creation point powerfully to the wise, intentional Creator revealed in Genesis 1:1.
Why Chance Cannot Explain Life
Creating life is way more complicated than we can imagine. The probability of winning the Powerball jackpot in the U.S. in November 2022 was about one in 290 million. That is a sure thing compared to the probability that life came into being by chance.
Evidence of a Wise and Powerful Creator
It goes far beyond mixing the right chemicals in a test tube. The forces of the universe are incredibly fine-tuned, evidence of a wise and powerful Creator. I will not bore you with the details. If they were not, life as we know it would not exist.
Earth’s Perfect Conditions for Life
The earth’s crust’s thickness and the composition of its core have to be just right for the carbon cycle and the earth’s magnetic strength to allow life. The amount of liquid water, the universal solvent on Earth, has to be right for life to exist.
The moon is the right size and location to stabilize the Earth’s tilt and prevent devastating seasonal temperature changes.
The amount of sulfur needed for biological functions is correct. The mass of the Earth is just right to maintain a life-giving atmosphere. The Earth is at the right distance from the sun to hold the right amount of liquid water.
Cosmic Protection and Planetary Balance
The Earth is located in a place in the galaxy that ensures a relatively safe orbit. The gravitational pulls of Saturn and Jupiter protect us from bombardment by most comets.
The Hidden Design Within Water and Matter
Even water molecules are finely tuned for life. Their polarity causes them to stick together, creates water’s surface tension, and enables it to dissolve other molecules effectively.1
Scientists stand on one another’s shoulders to learn how the universe ticks little by little as time marches on. God has no learning curve.
Creation Points Beyond Science to God
He knows everything about everything. There is a world of mystery in the simple statement, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1, NIV).
