We demonstrate biblical wisdom by the quality of both our words and our lives. Wisdom in Proverbs and Godly Living Skills--Part Fourteen describes how God blesses those who fear Him.
He protects, delights in, honors, and provides good health for the wise.
God Protects Them
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection” (Psalm 91:1–4 NLT).
Home Depot sells a storm shelter for more than $11,000.00. The wise have their storm shelter. The LORD is their lasting foundation in the storms of life (Proverbs 10:25). He is their security (Proverbs 3:26).
They come to Him for protection (Proverbs 30:5). They run to Him and are safe (Proverbs 18:10). He rescues them from trouble (Proverbs 11:8).
They don’t depend on their wealth for safety (Proverbs 18:11). The LORD offers His friendship to them and blesses their home (Proverbs 3:32–33). Their path of life leads upward (Proverbs 15:24).
God protected Jesus during His earthly ministry. When people from Nazareth tried to throw Him down a cliff, He could pass through their midst and escape danger (Luke 4:29–30).
God Delights in Them
Many people delight in their grandchildren. If they had known they were so much fun, they would have had them first!
God doesn’t delight in His grandchildren. He doesn’t have any. Only children (John 1:12). He delights in wise people with integrity (Proverbs 11:20) and pure words (Proverbs 15:26).
He delighted in Jesus. At Jesus’ baptism, the Father said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy” (Mark 1:11 NLT).
God Honors Them
I've already spent too much time trying to elevate myself above others—medals, awards, records, trophies, promotions, etc. By contrast, the LORD is gracious to and honors humble people (wise people) (Proverbs 3:34–35). They receive a lasting reward (Proverbs 11:18, 23; 14:14).
Wisdom rewards wise people with greatness and honor (Proverbs 4:8-9). It is associated with riches, honor, enduring wealth, justice, and righteousness (Proverbs 8:18–20).
Wise people fear the LORD and are humble. That leads to riches, honor, and long life (22:4). They are worthy of honor (Proverbs 26:1). They have a refuge when they die (Proverbs 14:32), a bright future, and hopes that will be realized (Proverbs 24:14).
“Jesus humbled Himself to become human and further humbled Himself to die as our substitute on the cross. “Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9–11 NLT).
God Gives Them Good Health
Wisdom brings life and healing to the whole body (Proverbs 4:22)—physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, relationally. Wise people have a peaceful heart and a healthy body (Proverbs 14:30).
“Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people” (Luke 2:52 NLT). He demonstrated biblical wisdom by the quality of both His words and His life. See additional characteristics of wise people. See additional free spiritual growth resources for Christians.
